On weather and style
About a month ago, I finally snipped off my tresses and got a long bob instead on Amy's recommendation. It has been such a refreshing change! I don't shed as much hair anymore, I look different, and Jia Wern thinks it's cute. Yay for short hair!
I really like the change, but I must say this is one of the higher maintenance haircuts I've gotten. (In case you're wondering why there aren't many pictures on Facebook, it's because of the flu. No one likes to take pictures when they're looking like the walking dead.) Anyway, back to the haircut. I have to blow dry my hair to maintain the round bob shape every time I wash my hair, which is quite a hassle. It's a good thing I got the haircut now during a time of no responsibilities/career/baby. This might be the only feasible time in my life to maintain a stylish haircut. =P
Enough about hair, on to the weather. Right now it's almost the end of winter/beginning of spring, and the robins are all out already. Jasmine is overjoyed that she gets to chase all those tubby birds. I like to think I got through this past winter pretty well - my skin didn't flake as much and my eczema was manageable. In terms of clothes, my essentials for survival this past winter included four long sleeved shirts, one pair of fleece lined pajama pants, three very ugly (but warm) sweaters, two cardigans and two jackets. I bought a knit tunic on sale just two weeks ago and it's now my current favourite. People can practically recognize me by my clothes since I wear the same things all the time. =P My mantra is to subsist on what is absolutely necessary when it comes to clothes since I probably won't need winter wear when we go back to Malaysia. Of course, the price to pay for subsistence is never making it onto the cover of Vogue. =P
I like to think that if we were planning to stay here for the long term, I'd invest more in clothing and furniture choices, but since we're thinking short term, all I can think of is, "If I get something new and expensive, how much of a resale price can it fetch after a year and a half?" But that might just be an excuse. Even back in Malaysia, I was always a cheapo. =P
Anyhow, it's good that the weather's getting slightly warmer. My winter clothes have served me well, and now I can begin to break out my other clothes from last year and subsist on them instead. =P
