Greetings from Subang
JW is vacuuming our new home with our new vacuum cleaner from Lazada as I type these words. I love Lazada. Ever since we moved in, I've ordered at least 6 household items and applied two discount voucher codes off it.
I'm a convert to online shopping when it comes to household items - what better way is there to compare prices and product specifications from the comfort of your own home? Most of the time I have no idea what the specs mean, so I have to google them and look up reviews first anyway. And going store to store just to hunt down that perfect bargain? Way too much work with Selangor (I know everyone calls it "KL" but I get really hung up about technical details like that, so I'll keep calling it "Selangor") traffic and parking fees. So Lazada is a real life-saver - I get to do my research, compare prices and let them do the delivering.
Don't even get me started on how much time it already takes me to shop for all the miscellaneous items we need including groceries. Normally, I love shopping, but after going to Aeon Big 5 times in the past week alone, I'm ready to call it quits. I feel so sorry for JW - he's been really patient with my every-other-day shopping frenzy. Try furnishing a new place and you'll understand. Even though we didn't exactly start from scratch (we got some household items from my relatives), it's difficult to get everything on a shopping list all at once especially since not only do I have a really long shopping list that I keep adding to, but I also have very strong aversions to garish colours and high prices. Hence the 5 trips, and I'm still not done.
But let's talk about other things. I finally got a teaching job and will be working across the street from JW, whee! Carpooling will be so easy. To add to that, we're staying only 10 minutes (tops) from our workplaces, thanks to relatives who were willing to rent out their place to us at a special rate. I am so grateful for all these blessings, but even if things hadn't worked out this smoothly, I know I can still trust my good God to place us exactly where He wants us to be for His glory and our good. All these bonuses are just icing on the cake. My job starts on Monday, and this will be my first official job. So excited! And also nervous, but that's a given.
One thing I noticed that's different about Malaysia is that people have a harder time assuming that JW is my husband here. Everyone initially thinks that he's my "friend", and we always joke that we must appear to be "living in sin" to those we don't explain it to - like the men who came to set up our WiFi yesterday. =P It's not my fault that most people only get married in their late 20s to 30s here. Also, people here keep assuming that I'm a fresh grad and that I've "just started working". Like, yeah, the job part is true, but I AM 26 so shouldn't you assume I've been working for 3 years or more already?
Eddie says that's because I have a young face. That's new, actually, since all my life I've looked 5 years older than my actual age. Finally, the tables have turned in my favour. =P
...He also said that working in Selangor will make me look haggard and old soon, so I shouldn't get too excited.
Anyway, it's lunchtime now so off I go! Malaysian food is one huge perk of being back. =D

HAHAHAHA I made John go to 5 different Ross's just so I could pick out the *perfect* -get this- throw pillows for our couches! Throw pillows! At least I still have great return policies to take advantage of. Must be a lot more stress now to have to meticulously look for the "perfect" product you want before committing. On the flip side, you get to enjoy Malaysian food at Malaysian prices. *envious*
ReplyDeleteHahaha don't envy me yet! I haven't actually figured out how to properly cook Malaysian food (although it IS easy enough to buy it). All the skills I picked up in the States seem to be in vain because the vegetables taste different here (different species?) and what used to work for my cooking doesn't anymore.
DeleteOh and about looking for the perfect product? I've lowered my standards drastically - the selection will never be as great as the States (I miss Ross and Target so much). =P
