Miss Bargain Bin

I know you're dying to see pictures of our new place. Or maybe I'm just projecting. =P But here they are anyways!

The living room.
The study/extra table for miscellaneous junk in the corner of the living room. The 'end table' there which also doubles as a bookshelf is a converted laptop table.
Close up of the coffee table. Some flowers to make you happy!

Now, I'm a self-confessed really bad photographer, and I don't have the patience (nor the aptitude) to edit photos to perfection. So what you're seeing is truly "no filter", "not that tidy" and I even left out the dining table because it was cluttered haha. As you can tell, the place is so spacious that I can't really get everything into one shot. That was just the prettiest part of the apartment, and I haven't even shown you the dining area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom yet. Granted, I'm pretty sure no one's really interested in the bathroom (or maybe that's just an excuse to not show people how cluttered it is =P). Kidding, it's not that cluttered. I only have shampoo, conditioner and soap at the bathtub area because I'm low maintenance like that. =P

If you were wondering about those funky art pieces above the futon in the living room, no, I'm not an art aficionado, and neither did we splurge on that. That was a Saturday night art project that we did together. All you need for that is a few shoebox covers or Marie Callender frozen dinner boxes and some wrapping paper. Thanks to the ample time I have on my hands and those DIY life hacks I pore over constantly, we created all that for less than 10 dollars, and we still have leftover wrapping paper.

Here's a closeup, in case you have no idea what I'm referring to, or why I'm so proud of it. =P

Yes, I am cheap and proud of it. What's there NOT to be proud of? I'm all about efficiency, and one side effect of that is getting the most bang out of the buck. Flowers? I go for the reduced bins where they put slightly older flowers which are already in full bloom, and are sold for 50% off. I got my huge bouquet which retails for 10 dollars "fresh" for only 4 dollars, and the flowers are still going strong after almost a week. Nah, proof for you :

It was Jia Wern's idea to get me flowers. D'awwwwww.

I took the cheap thing even further and separated the white carnation blooms to fill another vase on the coffee table. Like I mentioned on Instagram : One bouquet, many arrangements, much delight! =D

I love how it's so easy to get nice things for so cheap here, thanks to thrift stores. All it takes is a willingness to use second-hand items. Of course, you can't really tell how many hands they've been through, but really, who cares how many owners a nice clock has had as long as it's still ticking and showing the right time? Yup, it's showing the right time, just checked. ;) Got this IKEA beauty from the Salvation Army for just 2 or 3 dollars, can't remember which. And there's always disinfectant or baby wipes if you're REALLLLLY concerned about the germs.

So much love. Just don't turn it on the wrong side if you want the right time. =P
Jia Wern captured it perfectly when he said, and I quote, "Being poor is fun". I find it a great challenge to find things at bargain prices and being satisfied in my purchases. In fact, I think this will be a side of me that will never change even when we're better off. Well, maybe we'll buy less Kroger brand generic groceries, but otherwise, I don't really how it would change my cheapo habits. =P

Did I mention I also keep coupons? Had this great Burger King meal for two for only 4 dollars in total!

Okay that's TMI, till next time. =P
