We're moving again.

It's been an eventful few days. Just as I was groaning about going into another week with nothing to do, we got a (rude) surprise on Tuesday when a notice of eviction lease termination appeared on our doorknob. Apparently, the apartment management wants to renovate our unit so we'll have to move out by mid-July, which is when our lease ends. Meh. And here I thought we could stay put in our nice roomy apartment (846 sq ft is so lovely) until Jia Wern finished up his PhD. Hey, I even decorated the place and all!

Me being me, I jumped straight into tackling the apartment issue. This time, however, I paused to pray about the whole matter before I did anything about it. I think it's really important to get centered on the fact that God will provide and that we can cast our cares on Him because He cares for us. I don't want to do things in my own will, by my own strength and worrying the whole time. Like what Psalm 127:1 says, and I quote,

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.
That whole last paragraph was based on last Sunday's very timely sermon about finding rest in God. It did me good to remember that nothing happens without God's permission, and if God brings us to it, He will bring us through it.

After that, I went to our leasing office to discuss our options. Apparently we could move upstairs into an already renovated apartment, but signing a new lease would cost $135 more per month. SAY WHAT? We don't have that kind of money. So it was decided - we had to move elsewhere. At the same time though, it was a good reminder that we really got a good deal with our current apartment. 846 sq ft for a monthly rental of $665? Unheard of in this area around Duke West Campus. It's hard not to be thankful even in the midst of this situation.

Long story short, after talking to a few leasing consultants, I finally narrowed down my choices to two other apartment managements. Then I found out about the outrageous pet fee ($675!!!) for one of them, and crossed that off my list. Down to one apartment management with 3 available units. Then Jia Wern checked his conference dates and realized that they clashed with the moving date for 2 of the units, which left us with only one, which happened to be the one I liked the best because it was the biggest and had the best location. The only issue was that we'd have to move in before our current lease ended, which meant spending an extra $308, or breaking the lease (which seems like the more viable option since our deposit was only $99). But hey, conflict resolved since we'd have to move earlier anyway due to the conference dates.

Seriously, it was like God was eliminating the options for us. Thank you, God.

Pros of the new apartment (as far as I can tell):
-It's on the second floor.
-IT'S BRIGHTER (yay for natural light!)
-It's a closer walk to work for JW
-We can walk to the laundry facility instead of having to drive there like we do now.
-It's in a quiet part of a family-oriented neighbourhood.
-Hardwood floors, which means an easier cleanup if Jasmine makes a mess. Not that she's messy, but sometimes barfing is to be expected when a greedy dog eats trash, yannoe. =P

Cons:
-It's smaller so we might have to downsize.
-It's $25 higher in rent. =P
-Hardwood floors will probably get cold in winter. Gotta get a rug or something! Perhaps I should sell a table to get a rug. =P
- Moving. 'Nuff said.

All in all, I'm glad this issue was settled in 3 days with minimal worry. It was also a good exercise in faith and putting my trust in God.
