Two more months to go
It's been a while since I last posted, but so much has happened. =D
First off, JWern passed his defense last Wednesday - woots! It took a few weeks of cramming and late nights, but it all paid off in the end. While he was busy cramming, I was busy hatching a plot to throw him a surprise party at small group. Everything came together so well! I love the fact that his defense was on a Wednesday and that my small group (that meets on Wednesdays) loves parties, so it came together with minimal effort on my part.
After the whole defense thing, we took a week off to celebrate life. We had a delicious dinner at NanaSteak based on recommendations from our friends, explored Jordan Lake, tried Dame's Chicken and Waffles, and went to the Duke Gardens (TULIPS!). In between, I still went about my regular activities meeting up with friends, so I was pretty exhausted at the end of that week. No pictures because they're all on FB. =P Now that JWern has officially passed his defense, we've also started the online job-hunt. That's the reason why I haven't blogged until now - I didn't have the energy to get started on yet another 'chore'.
Some of my friends are also leaving the area very soon, so I've been trying to spend quality time with them before they leave for good. Over the past two years, I've built some pretty cool friendships. On one hand, I'm sad to watch them leave, but on the other, I'm leaving soon myself so the separation is going to happen either way. Of all the things that I'll miss here, I think I'll miss the people the most. I love that the Duke International House had so many social activities with the intention of bringing spouses together. I primarily owe my social network to the IHouse and small group. Through small group, I made all my American friends; through IHouse, I made all my international friends. Not all universities have such active International Houses, though. It was truly a blessing that I ended up where I did.
So, two more months. Things on my to-do list - get Jasmine a good home, (preferably) find a job, eat out at all the famous eateries in Durham, explore Durham, spend even more time with friends and SHOP. I might never again be able to afford the clothing, accessories and styles here. =P

I particularly agree with the last item in your to-do list. Shop while you can. Because you won't be able to find many of the things available there when you're back here in Malaysia. So you'll look super fashionable because nobody can duplicate your style. :P
ReplyDeleteSecondly, even if you could find the same stuff, they'll probably cost many times more.
And finally, they will serve as a pretty nice reminder of your wonderful memories.
