The details.
I hope people aren't sick of listening to me go on and on about the wedding, because this post is gonna be about the wedding again. Don't get me wrong, I am super relieved that the wedding is over, and that life can resume as normal. I'm not trying to relive the wedding or seek attention way past the event. I'm just trying to write down as much as possible about this important event because one day I may look back and wish I remembered more about it. =P Memory ain't what it used to be. Also, if anyone asks me for recommendations, I can just refer them to this post.
This post is just going to be a simple one about the vendors that helped to piece my wedding together, 'cause the rates were reasonable and I felt that I (mostly) got good value for money. Heheh.
My dress : Pearl Studio (rented), <RM500 for dress (+alteration), accessories and veil. Of course different dresses go at different rates, but most fall between RM400 - RM700, which was exactly my budget allocation for the dress. I would recommend this studio because most of their dresses still look rather new (even though they are used), their prices aren't cutthroat, and their salesgirls aren't pushy. ;P
Make-up and hairdo : Some people remarked on how nice and natural my make-up looked, and all the credit should go to Ms Vivian, my cousin's wife. Unfortunately she doesn't have a physical shop right now, so I do not know how to recommend her. I had a make-up trial at her place prior to the actual day, and she asked a friend to help out with the bridesmaids' make-up. My make-up alone cost <RM300, but maybe that was relative price. =P The standard rate for a wedding make-up session (by other make-up artists) is at least RM350, as far as I'm aware.
The photographer : Mohamed Azlan from Blogdiloz.com. He's a freelancer, and I opted for the budget package so I only spent around RM2200 (including plane tickets, transport and lodging) for the actual day wedding photography and an outdoor photoshoot after. What I really liked about his rates was that he had a range of rates and was very flexible about his packages (customizable packages with plenty of available add-ons). I can't really say whether it was a good deal or not since I haven't gotten the actual photographs yet, but I can vouch for the fact that he's very fun company to hang out with, and the outdoor photoshoot was a comfortable and fun affair. =D
The flowers and deco : Blue Roses Florist. Not much to comment on since I'm not really a flowers kinda person. All I can say is, fake flowers ftw - no petals lying anywhere, and you can collect your bouquets a week in advance if you like. :P
The hotel : Four Points by Sheraton. Sigh. NOT recommended. The room had broken sockets, the tap was wobbly and the hot/cold indicators were wrong. But on the bright side, they gave us a huge corner room with the view of the city. Sorta. No toothpaste or sewing kit provided though (and we found out we REALLY needed those ;P), had to ring reception for that. I thought Sheraton was supposed to have this good reputation, so I was disappointed. RM250 per night.
The finger food : Chicken pie from a chicken pie vendor, popiah from Kim Hock Lin cafe, cream puffs from J.D. Bakery BDC, carrot cake from Bakers' Talk, 1TJ, and Choco Oat cereal bars. Trust mum to get the best finger food in Kuching even if it means ordering from 5 different vendors. =P The chicken pie man even came to man the oven and keep the pies warm and fresh. <3 Prices vary for different food items, but altogether the refreshments amounted to <RM1400.
I'm going to end this post here on the note that I am an advocate for NOT wasting money on weddings, and I feel sorry for those who have to for various reasons beyond their control. :P And I managed to keep the entire wedding under 8k, so kudos to me wheeee.

WOOHOO! good bargains ftw!!!!
ReplyDeletehow much angpao did you and JW get? sorry to be so... direct and untactful. just wanna know if the 8k was gross or net expenditure.
ReplyDeleteHaha, 8k was gross, not net. Let's just say the angpaos more than covered the cost of the wedding and that we were really surprised and grateful at how generous people were. :)
