So. The long-awaited ( I HOPE) post about the wedding is finally here. Sorry for dropping off the edge of the world for the past few days, I've been busy. ;)
Most of you know how much I dreaded the hassle of the wedding planning and the surveying and the decision-making and all things tedious, right? Well, I also didn't expect the actual wedding day to be much better since I'd have contacts in my eyes, makeup on my face, and be wearing pretty but uncomfy shoes for the whole of SIX (6) or more *winces* hours. All my fault, really, since I wanted an outdoor photoshoot on the same day (because I didn't want a pre-wed photoshoot or yet ANOTHER makeup and dress up session). =P
The pleasantly surprising thing was, I had more fun than I ever expected to have, mainly because of the company. It was only at the wedding that I realized how much I had missed human interaction and socializing. Jia Wern's crazy St Jo gang even came up with a hashtag for the wedding : sixpointfive, for the number of years we dated before getting hitched (and I was told it had another connotation as well *cough*). And even though some in the bridal party were strangers to each other (Amy and Javier and Azlan [the photographer]), everyone just gelled together nicely and we had a swell time over the outdoor photoshoot and lunch. All in all, I had this really good time.
The best parts of the wedding :
1. Dad's excellent wedding speech that kept everyone entertained.
2. The finger food was goooooooooood. THANKS MUM I always knew I could trust your tastebuds.
3. How gorgeous the wedding dress looked in photos (the train was soooo pretty! I didn't even know it until I saw the photos)
4. How friendly and nice the photographer was, which made for a really comfortable (read : not awkward) photoshoot. =D
5. The good-looking bridesmaids and groomsmen in their sharp outfits. (I seriously think I had a super good-looking bridal party that day. Really. Not the estrogen or oxytocin talking, I promise you.)
6. How smooth and short and sweet the ceremony was. <3
7. The songs chosen for the wedding processional and recessional. Jonathan Cain's version of the wedding march was seriously sweet, and the rendition of Michael Buble's "Everything" by Jia Wern's St Jo friends was absolutely perfect for a light-hearted, bubbly, happy recessional. Always good to have talented friends. Thanks guys. ;)
After the wedding, the photos came pouring into my Facebook newsfeed, timeline and Whatsapp. The unofficial ones, of course, but some of them were SOOO pretty. Everything looked so good from the bridesmaid dresses to the train of my dress to the ties of the boys and the makeup! I was so relieved that everything came together nicely even though I didn't spend a lot on all of these. I don't know why, but I'm always pessimistic about my choices about what's visually appealing, so it was a hugely pleasant surprise to know that everything looked SO GOOD. And now I don't feel so art-challenged anymore teehee.
Before I end this post, I wanna say that I'm deeply indebted to everyone who helped out on that day - to my bridesmaids, Rene and Amy (who constantly ensured that I looked pretty for photographs and that my train was nicely flipped out), to Cornerstone members (who helped out with the worship leading and refreshments and guest table and undoubtedly, the cleaning up), to Jia Wern's determined St Jo friends who REAAAAAAAAALLLLY wanted to perform for the wedding, to my friends, who gave me ideas and insight during the planning phase, and last but not least, to my beloved parents who slogged through the preparation process, and had to deal with my stressed out behaviour with patience. I love you all very much, and thank you. We could never have done it without you all. Last but definitely not least, THANK YOU, GOD for the beautiful weather on that day. And for orchestrating everything in our lives, and leading us thus far. All glory and honour be unto You. =)
Love,
The happy bride.
P.s. and to everyone else who forced me to take selfies/took surreptitious photos of the wedding, thank you so much for the photos that will get me through another 1.5 months of waiting for the official ones. xD
